Research in the electrochemical energy conversion group focuses on redox flow batteries and PEM electolysis. The main activities are system design and integration, test rig development and system characterization as well as model based analysis.
In the tubulyze project we are responsible for the design and characterisation of the tubular PEM electrolysis cells. This work integrates the results and experiences of the other subprojects.
The main challenges are the cell production and assembly, the component tuning and coordination, the sealing and leak tightness, the electrical and hydraulic contact as well as the fluid flow design. The cell characterisation/system test consists of electrochemical and mechanical characterisations and the empirical analysis of performance data.
